“The Butterfly Effect” or “Athar Al-Farasha” is a transformative initiative for 17–19-year-olds in three Palestinian localities in Israel. Guided by Al-Tufula partnering with two organizations, we're focused on cultivating political leadership and fostering social change activism. Through tailored sessions, we broaden the youth's socio-political insight, amplify their advocacy skills, foster networking, and champion their academic aspirations. At the heart of "Athar Al-Farasha" is the belief in the profound impact every young individual can have on their community.
In this project we also introduce the participants to the various aspects of our socio-political reality, such as the climate change danger, unrecognized villages, history. Thus, we decided to show them these aspects, rather than just tell them about them. To this end, we took them on trips to learn about these struggles from the people who go through them, which also gives them the opportunity to ask questions of these people that only the latter can answer comprehensively.
Each of these trips entailed not only new information and lectures, but also a lived experience of the other’s customs and traditions where they got the chance to try their cuisine and get to know the other’s culture.
The participants gain a deep understanding of their political climate after going through this program. Thus, to ensure that the impact is sustained, they plan social media campaigns that seek to pass on what they learned. Each participant chooses a socio-political issue that they have discussed in the sessions or that they were introduced to during the program and then plans their campaign around it, then shares it on social media. This way, more people are exposed to these issues and their impact on our lives, especially young people who have a greater impact, without having to go through a similar process.
After October 23 our youth were under political pressure due to the emergency state and have faced censorship. Therefore, we introduced new components to our work which addressed their rights and how to deal with the current restrictions.
